Brisbane Workshop Series

Posted by creativephotoworkshops at 12:24 AM on December 01, 2009 Comments comments (0)

Well what other word can I say but WOW!

We have jst had four incredible days of photography with some simply fatastic people in Brisbane.

They all made us feel incredibly welcome and were up for all the madness that is a Creative Photo Workshop.

First up was our two day Natural Light and Wireless Flash Workshops - We had the awsome Sashaan as our female model and two of the nicest male models it has been our pleasure to work with in Clint and Josh (are those made up model names or were they simply born to model?).

It was very hot and very humid for both days but everyone just accepted the challenge of the harsh light (after all these are conditions they face all the time)and really rocked some great photos!

Friday night saw a ew ofus make fools of ourselves with Karaoke and we have promised never to return to Brisbane if the footage of Shelton and I ever makes it to the net smile

Our second two day event was our full on Wedding Workshop and I have to say this was the best we have ever run thanks to the amazing efforts of Debbie and Naomi who organised churches, clergy, cars, dresses, flowers - you name it, we had it. A full on real Wedding experience. The minister at the Church even gave us an impromtu lesson on Church etiqutte for photographers which was fantastic!

The images our attendees were pulling out were spectacular - a group of very talented photographers. It certainly was our pleasure to spend the four days with us!

Thank you everyone for your fun, friendship and laughs!

Next up is our Summer Series - we still have a few single event passes for those interested and we are soon to announce a special evening Photography Forum on the 14th of December - stay tuned!

October 10th Wedding Workshop

Posted by creativephotoworkshops at 09:00 AM on October 10, 2009 Comments comments (1)

Well we had the great priviledge of being able to run our Wedding Workshop in Melbourne today to a packed house. What an awesome way to start the weekend!

Due to a severe shortage of suitably handsome men I got stuck with being the 'Groom' for the day.

We always like to put our attendees through some tough challenges so today one of those was to try and make me look good smile

Our regular model and trainee tutor Natasha was with us again. It is always great to have her along as not many models have experience on both sides of the camera. Having a great knowledge of how to maximise the shot she is in means she won't let someone get away with an OK shot when it could have been so much better.

The weather was simply beautiful and full of Melbourne sunshine so what do we do? Put our Bride and Groom in the harshest light we could find and learn lessons on how to meter for these difficult conditions and still come away with great images.

I think one of the biggest fears photographers have is having to shoot in bad conditions and how they are going to deal with them.

It is always so heart warming to see people start off with worried looks when we put them into these difficult conditions and then see the light go on when the lessons start to click into place.

Thanks everyone for joining Shelton, Natasha and I for another awesome Workshop!

How to use your Camera Workshop

Posted by creativephotoworkshops at 06:36 AM on September 28, 2009 Comments comments (0)

This last Saturday saw us running another of our popular 'How to' Workshop.

The day coincided with the AFL Grand Final so it was a pleasant surprise we had so many people willing to join us on the day. The fact that the weather was bitterly cold, rainy and windy certainly meant those that came along were keen to learn.

Once again it was just so great to see people go from not understanding what a light meter was at the beginning of the day to being able to spot meter in difficult lighting and nailing the shots!

I saw lots of interesting and creative shots by our attendees and I am always amazed at how people 'see' the same scene I see yet manage to put their own interpretation to it.

So thank you everyone for joining us on the day. Keep practising the skills we taught and let's see how far you can take your photography.

Echuca Workshop - WOW!

Posted by creativephotoworkshops at 10:03 PM on September 14, 2009 Comments comments (1)

Well I think the only word that describes the Echuca Weekend Photo Workshop is WOW!

Dubbed 'Echucapalooza' we had an incredible time. Amazing locations, fantastic models and our attendees were put through a VERY intensive weekend of photography.

From 5AM Saturday until 4.30PM Sunday it was non stop shooting.

It was an incredibly rewarding experience to have such a great opportunity to share our photography with our attendees.

We had a wide variety of skill levels from novices to seasoned photographers and while it was great to work with everyone, I think I got the most satisfaction from working with the novices and helping them take the next step in their photographic journey. Seeing their images continually improve over the two days was fantastic.

Over the last day or so I have seen lots of our attendees images posted up on Flickr, Facebook and Shelton's Tutorial Website, The Five Minute Photographer, and I have to say they are brilliant. Such great variety and vision. It always amazes me how people see locations, angles and light differently.

It makes me very proud to have been a part of organising this event and seeing the end results.

Departing was rewarding and sad at the same time.

Rewarding to know that we had put on a fantastic experience for everyone and that they were going home better photographers.

Sad that we weren't getting up the next day and doing it all over again.

I want to thank Shelton, Richard and Nathan for their hard work in running the show with me.

Natasha, Caroline and Graham for being amazing models that worked incredibly hard for us.

And lastly to everyone who joined us and helped make this weekend so incredible.

Thanks everyone.

Another Portrait Workshop Run and Won

Posted by creativephotoworkshops at 06:33 AM on August 01, 2009 Comments comments (1)

Just got home from another of our Workshops. This time we had our very popular Portrait Workshops.

What a great day! We had yet another fabulous bunch of people, an awesome young girl named Caroline as our model and more fun than you could poke a stick at.

I think the greatest revelation our attendees get out of this Workshop is how simple window loght can produce astounding images once you know how to use the cameras light meter correctly.

Time and again today we used this simple technique and the images I saw on the screens of our attendees were fantastic.

Hopefully everyone will get out there cameras tomorrow and practice this skill over and over until the concepts are firmly embedded.

Thanks everyone for a terrific day. We love running these days and we love seeing your passion for photography.

Another Awesome Workshop Completed

Today we ran one of our How to use your DSLR Workshops.

On a personal level these have to be the most gratifying Workshops we run,

Seeing people turn their cameras on to M for the first time with trepidation and then by the end of the day really start to grasp the principals of photography is just brilliant.

We had a great group of people braving the slightly chilly elements. Our lovely model Natasha sat in on the morning session as she has been inspired to get her own DSLR.

She even gave up her Birthday to spend with us - Thanks Tash!

We are running another How to day on September 26th - just realised this is Grand Final day - maybe we'll need to get a TV running in the corner!

Our Weekend Workshop is almost half filled already after being announced earlier this week.

If you are considering coming along don't leave it too long as we do have limited numbers.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and make sure you take some pics!

Echuca Extravaganza Weekend

Posted by creativephotoworkshops at 02:05 AM on July 23, 2009 Comments comments (1)

Well we have finally got together all the details for our weekend extravaganza and it looks like it is going to be a blast.

My trip up to Echuca the other day was mainly in search of a 'hero' location for the weekend.

I really wanted one 'knock 'em dead' setting where we could really produce some amazing images.

The Echuca area itself has lots of potential and the shoots we will be doing on the Echuca Wharf and on the Paddle Steamer will really portray the area well. Our sunrise and sunset locations over the river will be great as long as the weather plays its part.

But I really wanted somewhere that would just blow us all away - well when talking to one of the locals about what I was looking for he said I know where there's an old sheep shearing shed in a field that you may like.

Well if anyone has ever looked at my Flickr stream ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/r1user/ ) you will know I do love a good shed shot so I drove off in the general direction with no real expectations that this would be my 'hero' destination.

15 minutes or so down a country road I saw the 'shed'. Well I reckon it would have to be 400 foot long with lots of sheep pens out the front and nice and rustic - my sort of place.

I drove onto the property to check it out properly.

Walking around the outside it was a nice enough spot to take some shots however when I walked inside I just about fell off my perch. The place looked as if the workers had only left the day before. Spread down the main room were huge woven cane baskets still full of wool  with the most amazing light streaming through the skylights.

This is the sort of location I have been looking for for years to shoot in and here it was. Our 'hero' location was found. This place was perfect. I could just imagine our group shooting in here. There were awesome locations for model shoots, rustic scenery shots, great spots for detail shots of old machinery.

This place in fact was so awesome it changed our whole trip itinerary.

Initially I was looking for somewhere to fill in an hour slot on the schedule.

We have now slotted this location in for 2 1/4 hours with the potential of having lunch here for 3/4hr so we could stay even longer if the desire is there.

It is very rare to get the chance to shoot in such a place so we want to maximise this opportunity.

This is going to be one awesome weekend Workshop. We already have some great people booked in so we know that this is going to be a great social occassion as well.

For more info on the weekend drop me an email and I will send you the itinerary.

Weekend Workshop

Posted by creativephotoworkshops at 01:34 AM on July 20, 2009 Comments comments (0)

Tomorrow I am back off up to Echuca to finalise our plans for the Weekend Workshop.

This trip is going to be a blast.

We have all sorts of cool locations to shoot and will have two models to add interest to our shots.

We will be shooting in old Wharfs, Paddle Steamers, Old Streets, Shearing Sheds and a few surprises. Of course we'll have some great shots of the River Murray at sunrise and sunset (weather permitting).

This Workshop covers all aspects of our Workshops from Portraiture, Wireless Flash, Composition, Exposure and uses lenses effectively.

Shelton and I are really looking forward to sharing this weekend with you.

Once I return tomorrow night we will have the final items locked in and we will be sending out the itinerary to everyone on the waiting list.

It's gonna be a hoot!

This Saturday we have our 'How to' Workshop at Abbotsford Convent.

This is going to be a great day too and we are pretty close to being sold out but there is a place or two left if anyone is interested in coming along.

OK, off to charge batteries for tomorrows trip!
